D&C 88:119  -  Theme of this class.  Section 88 “ was designated by the Prophet as the “‘olive leaf’ … plucked from the Tree of Paradise, the Lord’s message of peace to us””
Why do we need to cut the clutter and get organized?  Saves time, money, to make more time to focus on the things that matter most.

“Change begins with me”- “Tempting as it is to call a family meeting and lay down the clutter law, think again. Draconian measures can only be enforced so long as the enforcer stays on the job--and if you're not there first, coercive efforts are doomed to fail.
Instead, build credibility, knowledge and motivation by mastering your own clutter challenges first, then involving the remainder of the family.”

SIMPLIFY
Practical:  Essential, necessary, nice article – Sister Beck
·        What are the essentials?
·        In our busy lives, how do we make sure to get the essentials taken care of?
Wake up earlier, get creative – multi-task (listen to conference talk while making dinner, etc), schedule
·        How do we simplify?
Eliminate nice things, say no, seek guidance from the Lord and stay close to the Spirit, cut back on media
“mothers who know are selective about their own activities and involvement to conserve their limited strength in order to maximize their influence where it matters most.”   Mothers Who KnowNov. 2007
“Mothers who know do less.  They permit less of what will not bear good fruit eternally.  They allow less media in their homes, less distraction, less activity that draws children away from their home.  Mothers who know are willing to live on less and consume less of the world’s goods in order to spend more time with their children- more time eating together, more time working together, more time reading together, more time talking, laughing, singing, and exemplifying.  These mothers choose carefully and do not try to choose it all.”  Mothers Who Know

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.  Leonardo da Vinci
Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity.- Charles Mingus (musician)
Conclusion
1st Nephi 18:1-3 Nephi is commanded to build a ship
Each of our situations is unique, and the Lord will direct us, possibly to do things with curious workmanship, or not in the way the world would do.  And it may not be the way your friend is directed.
Nephi was also shown from time to time what to do.  Same with us, usually given revelation bit by bit or from time to time, not all at once.
Nephi went up to the mount often to receive guidance from the Lord.  As we continue to ask for help in ordering our homes, the Lord will reveal great things to us.
Write down a goal.  “A goal not written down is just a wish.” Pres. Monson
Something in all three areas, or just one.
A constant work in progress.
Testimony of peace that comes when we follow these principles.

“We are responsible for the home we build.  We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage.  There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow.  But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth.”  Pres. Monson “Hallmarks of a Happy Home” Missionary Broadcast 20 Feb 2000 (found in Monson’s biography)
